Rinnai did what??!!

Rinnai has decided to RAISE the warranty in qualified recirculation systems to 12 years!! This new warranty pertains to recirculating systems that are controlled through an aquastat/thermostat, a timer or an on-demand system. “We originally implemented a reduced heat exchanger warranty on condensing units in recirculating due to the accelerated wear that results from use with a constantly running circulation loop,” said Joe Holliday, Rinnai’s director of product management. “However, we realize that advances in some recirculating systems have eliminated the need of constant recirculation. This, along with advances in the strength and durability of our heat exchanger design, allows us to offer the same warranty as traditional residential installations.” This warranty change is effective immediately on all new Rinnai brand condensing tankless unit installations with qualified recirculation systems and is not retroactive. Tankless Water Heaters and the Oil Spill Disaster

What is the unfortunate common denominator between the two? I’ll give you a clue…birds. If you saw the news this morning you know that the Texas General Land Office just dispatched several trailers to Louisiana to help with the wildlife rescue and clean up. One of those trailers is specifically designed to help clean the birds that have been covered in the crude oil. We just installed 2 Rinnai R75LSi Tankless Hot Water Heaters in that trailer to help make sure those birds get clean! The Hot Water Guys…just doing our part to make the world better One Hot Shower at a Time!

Rheem Racing!

On Saturday April 18th, a few lucky HOT WATER employees were treated to a day at the races at the Texas Motor Speedway compliments of Rheem. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and the race was postponed until Monday. Regardless, a fun day was had by all! Good food, drink, camaraderie, and a bag full of Rheem Racing gear. Not a bad way to spend a rainy saturday. Incidentally, #33 Kevin Harvick finished the race in 5th place. Kevin has started the season by finishing in the top 5 six times out of seven races!! CONGRATULATIONS KEVIN and GO TEAM RHEEM!!

A NEW FAMILY MEMBER

Those of you who are familiar with the Hot Water Family know that one of our very valued staff members is taking the next 6-8 weeks off to welcome a new addition to HER family. Jennifer, we wish you all the best and we can’t wait to meet Holly. When Jennifer returns she will be taking on exciting new challenges within our organization. Hurry back, we miss you already!

Taking over the Service Department is the newest member of our family, Carrie Gaffney. Carrie is a new resident to the great state of Texas via Colorado (perhaps she brought the cold weather with her??). She is also new to the tankless hot water heater industry. Carrie can often be found perusing our supplier’s web sites or reading pamphlets and service manuals to learn as much as she can. She even spent her first five days as a Hot Water employee living without hot water to better understand how our customers feel! Ok, it wasn’t really in the name of research, just a well timed inconvenience. Carrie brings many years of customer service and administrative support to our office. We look forward to working with her. Welcome to Hot Water and to Texas, Carrie!

Can a Guy Have a Crush on a Tankless Water Heater?

Howdy Houston! I hope everybody had an enjoyable and safe independance day. This week we’re going to talk about one of the most exciting new products in the tankless industry. That new product is the Navien condensing-type tankless water heater.

The Navien tankless water heater is the most efficient in the industry. Period. Depending on the model, the efficiency ranges from 97.3% to 98.8%! Because of this ultra-high efficiency rating, the exhaust temperatures range from 90 to 140 degrees, which allows these units to be vented with standard pvc piping as opposed to the very expensive class III stainless steel vent pipe, and in most cases, this equates to considerable savings on the installation cost.

This efficiency also means greater energy savings because it produces more hot water per btu than other leading tankless manufacturers. For example, the Navien CR-180, which is the smallest unit available,uses 150,000 btu’s of gas to make 8.5 gallons of hot water per minute, while most of the other manufacturers only make 5 gallons of hot water per minute using 150,000 btu’s of gas. In my mind that’s quite a difference!

Navien is also one of the few manufacturers that uses stainless steel in their heat exchanger construction. Stainless steel heat exchangers are up to 20 times more resistant than copper heat exchangers to corrosion and condensation damage. Stainless steel is much smoother and less porous than copper, so we also have less problems with calcium and hard water scale buildup on the critical heat exchanger parts, which means flushing and cleaning the heat exchangers will very rarely, if ever, have to be done. All this being said, the life expectancy of the Navien units will be in the range of 20-30 years.

Navien also has a built in leak detector available in every unit . If any moisture is detected within the unit, the machine automatically turns off the water supply to the unit, virtually eliminating the possibility of costly property damage due to water leaks.

Navien has the best warranty in the industry to date. It has a 15 year warranty on the heat exchanger, 6 year parts warranty, and 1 year parts and labor.

Navien also has models available with built in circulation pumps and mini buffer tanks. These models deliver hot water to faucets quickly, which aids in water conservation. This also means that there is no minimum flow rate with these units. These units also eliminate the so-called “cold water sandwich” due to the no-minimum flow rate. All other manufacturers have a minimum flow rate of at least 0.5 gallons per minute.

We have partnered with Navien for about a year now, have installed in excess of 125 units in that time, and have had minimal problems with these machines. As you guys know, I’ve been a plumber for about 17 yrs and it takes alot to impress me with new product lines, but Navien has met and exceeded all my expectations when it comes to tankless water heaters. We have installed enough of the units to know that this is an outstanding product, and a product worthy of being included in the Hot Water Guys inventory.

Hello, Houston!!

My name is Eddie, and I’m the newest member of the Hot Water team. I’ll be doing at least one post a week here on our blog. My goal here is to help educate everybody on the many benefits and the technology that applies to tankless water heating. One reason to THANK Washington

There’s a new (and improved!) 2009 – 2010 Tax Credit for Energy Conserving Appliances.

Beginning on January 1, 2009, and continuing through December 31, 2010, the Tax Credit has been raised to 30% of the cost of a Tankless Water Heater and its installation. Our average installation runs somewhere around $3200 / $3300, so this means anyone purchasing a new Tankless Water Heater will get a refund of about $1000 (max is $1500). That’s great news for homeowners and everyone in the Tankless Industry!
